PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: TRI-BUILT® Modified Bitumen Adhesive Brush Grade is a fiberated rubberized adhesive with a bonding strength designed specifically for adhering modified bitumen and asphalt coated membranes to properly prepared surfaces. It sets by loss of solvent content through evaporation. Because of its ease of application, economical cost and strong bonding, it is widely used in application of modified bitumen cap sheets. Lap strengths far exceed minimum requirements of ASTM D-3019. Product has excellent low temperature flexibility. It does not require red label solvent identification. NOT FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA.
USAGE: TRI-BUILT® Modified Bitumen Adhesive Brush Grade is especially formulated for use as a cold adhesive over asphalt coated base sheets. It is designed to be used to adhere modified bitumen membrane having no polyethylene backing. It has many advantages over the use of hot asphalt in applying modified asphalt sheets. It eliminates the hazard of hot kettle fires around industrial plants. Roofing can be applied under controlled conditions. The hazards of torch application, as well as hot asphalt fumes and odors, are eliminated.
COVERAGE: 1.5 gallon per 100 sq. ft. Do not over apply. Over application can prolong the dry time and increase in odor.
SURFACE PREPARATION: All surfaces to be coated with product must be dry, clean and free from oil, grease, rust, scale, loose paint and dirt and other foreign matter that would interfere with a good bond.
APPLICATION: Stir in container and apply by notched squeegee, brush or suitable spray. A notched squeegee with notches 1/4" long, 1/8" deep, spaced on 1" centers, is preferred for smooth surfaces. For irregular surfaces, the notch should be 1/4" deep. Average application rate is 1.5 gal. per 100 sq. ft. Do not over apply. Sufficient adhesive should be applied at laps to result in a visible bead of adhesive at completed lap edge. Modified bitumen membranes should be cut in maximum 18 foot lengths and membrane allowed to relax on job site. Laps must be walked in or rolled after application. A Speedflo or Graco pump capable of delivering 3-5 gallons of mastic coating type material per minute is suitable. A pole gun with a suitable spray tip orifice without a breaker bar, usually 60-80 mils, is recommended. The material hose should be heavy duty. A 3/4" I.D. air hose from pump to gun is preferred. When spraying at ambient temperatures below 70ºF, use an in-line warmer to reduce back pressure and increase speed of application. Do not allow the material to exceed 110ºF at the tip.
PRECAUTIONS: CLOSE AIR INTAKES ON ROOF UNTIL SOLVENTS DISSIPATE! NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE ON EPDM OR PVC SHEET ROOFING, WOOD SHINGLES OR OVER GRAVEL. NOT TO BE USED FOR MODIFIED BITUMEN SINGLE PLY PRODUCTS WITH POLYETHYLENE BACKING. SOLVENT VAPOR CAN PENETRATE POROUS ROOF DECKS SUCH AS WOOD, PLYWOOD, OSB, CEMENTITIOUS WOODFIBER PANELS, AND LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE. THE UNDERSIDE OF THESE TYPES OF ROOF DECKS MUST BE PROPERLY VENTILATED TO THE OUTSIDE TO PREVENT ODOR INSIDE THE BUILDING.
TRI-BUILT® Modified Bitumen Adhesive Brush Grade does not freeze. Cold weather will cause it to stiffen, making application difficult. Store unopened container in a warm area at least 24 hours before using. TRI-BUILT® Modified Bitumen Adhesive Brush Grade is ready to use. Do not thin. Do not heat container or store at temperatures greater than 110ºF. When transporting this product, be sure the container is secured and the lid is tight. Do not allow container to tumble as this may loosen the lid and allow leakage to occur. Not all APP torch down membranes are alike and as such application of TRI-BUILT® Modified Bitumen Adhesive Brush Grade with APP membranes may not yield satisfactory results. Please contact the Technical Service Department and the APP membrane manufacturer before proceeding. Do not use this product as a coating, or to attempt to seal gravel, rubber, or PVC sheet roofing, or shingles of any kind.
NOTE: This adhesive, like all asphalt-based products, forms a small amount of water soluble material as it weathers. Normally this is not noticeable because the rain washes it away. However, roofs having a pitch less than 1/2" per foot, or ones having poor drainage, will accentuate the problem by concentrating the water soluble material in low spots. If there is no rainfall, hose these roofs off to remove the water solubles. Frequent inspection of these roofs is recommended because abnormally rapid deterioration of any roofing material may occur where water stands for long periods
CLEANUP: All equipment can be cleaned with mineral spirits. Use care in handling solvents. Clean hands with a waterless hand cleaner.
WARNING! COMBUSTIBLE! Contains petroleum distillate. Keep away from heat and flame. Do not heat container or store at temperatures greater than 110ºF. CLOSE AIR INTAKES until solvents dissipate. Contains volatile solvents that might contaminate potable water. Close container after each use. Dispose of container and unused contents in accordance with Local, State and Federal regulations. DANGER! HARMFUL OR FATAL IF SWALLOWED! If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. CALL PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY! Use protective measures to avoid contact with eyes and skin. In case of eye contact, open eyelids wide and flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. In case of accidental injection by power spray equipment, GET MEDICAL ATTENTION IMMEDIATELY!
USE ONLY WITH ADEQUATE VENTILATION! Avoid breathing of vapor. If you experience eye watering, headaches or dizziness, leave area or increase fresh air or wear respirator (NIOSH/MSHA TC 23C or equal). Repeated and prolonged occupational overexposure to solvent vapor may cause permanent brain and nervous system damage, and may cause liver or kidney damage.
