PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: TRI-BUILT® Flashing Cement is a premium grade mastic compound supplied in a smooth, easy-working consistency which adheres to wet or dry surfaces. TRI-BUILT® Flashing Cement remains flexible after application, expanding and contracting on the surface to which it is applied. This product has a high resistance to weathering and provides excellent durability against the stresses and wear to which such cements are normally exposed. This material is a blend of selected asphalts, fillers and petroleum solvents.
USAGE: TRI-BUILT® Flashing Cement has been developed as a high performance flashing cement and is designed to work well in most conditions. Due to its unique combination of ingredients, this material has the ability to bond to wet or dry surfaces. TRI-BUILT® Flashing Cement can be used for repairing leaks in metal, shingles, asphalt BUR, asphalt composition membranes, concrete, flashings, gutters and around chimneys, downspouts and eaves. Typical coverage for is 12.5 square feet per gallon.
SURFACE PREPARATION: Surface must be clean and free from oil, grease, rust, scale, loose paint, and dirt. For best adhesion over worn or previously coated surfaces, an application of asphalt primer is recommended. Allow primer to dry thoroughly prior to the application of this product.
APPLICATION: TRI-BUILT® Flashing Cement is applied with an ordinary trowel. Apply at a nominal thickness of 1/8 inch to surfaces to be treated. Apply liberally in joint areas, seams or cracks. If breaks are large, spread product over break, cover with a piece of asphalt saturated felt or suitable reinforcing membrane, and follow with another 1/8 inch coating of product. When applying, work TRI-BUILT® Flashing Cement to a feather edge, 2" - 4" beyond crack or break. For best results in cold weather, keep unopened can in a warm area at least 24 hours before applying. Cement should be applied under normal environmental conditions without thinning.
PRECAUTIONS: Do not heat container or store at temperatures greater than 110ºF. When transporting this product, be sure the pail is secured and the lid is tight. Do not allow pail to tumble, as this may loosen the lid and allow leakage to occur. CLOSE AIR INTAKES ON ROOF UNTIL SOLVENTS DISSIPATE. This cement is not recommended for use over gravel, rubber or PVC sheet roofing, wood shingles or flashings. To extend the life of the mastic, after it has weathered 30 days, coat with a fibered aluminum roof
NOTE: This cement, like all asphalt-based products, forms a small amount of water soluble material as it weathers. Normally this is not noticeable because the rain washes it away. However, roofs having a pitch less than 1/2" per foot, or ones having poor drainage, will accentuate the problem by concentrating the water soluble material in low spots. If there is no rainfall, hose these roofs off to remove the water solubles. Frequent inspection of these roofs is recommended because abnormally rapid deterioration of any roofing material may occur where water stands for long periods.
CLEANUP: Tools may be cleaned with mineral spirits. Use care when handling solvents. Clean hands with a waterless hand cleaner.
WARNING! COMBUSTIBLE! Contains petroleum distillate. Keep away from heat and flame. Do not heat container or store at temperatures greater the 110º F. CLOSE AIR INTAKES until solvents dissipate. Contains volatile solvents that might contaminate potable water. Close container after use. Dispose of container and unused contents in accordance with Local, State and Federal regulations. DANGER!
